Mirroring The Hearts of Others
We have two ears and one mouth for a reason--so we can listen to others (at least!) twice as much as we speak. In turn, when we listen with a mindful ear, we will notice that there are essentially 2 responses that we hear from them (and even ourselves when we listen closely): A loving response and a cry for help. Perceiving the “troublesome” communication of others (especially our students) as a cry for help makes us more likely to respond with compassion.
In sum, the greatest gift we can offer others (and ourselves!) is our deep awareness and heart, our full presence…but how? The next lesson will address that precise question.
